24th December 2013: A paper entitled “Improved Inequalities for the Poisson and Binomial Distribution and Upper Tail Quantile Functions” is accepted for publication in the ‘Probability & Statistics’ open-access online Journal. Further details will follow on the publications page.

 

10th – 13th September 2013: Fathi Abugchem attends and presents a full paper at the industrial control track of the 18th IEEE ETFA conference in Cagliari, Italy.

 

01st – 30th September 2013: Dr Short enjoys a productive sabbatical visit to Julian Proenza’s research group in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Many thanks for the hospitality and the excellent tapas!

 

26th May 2013: A paper co-authored with Dr Muneeb Dawood (research associate at UoT) is accepted for publication at the 12th International Workshop on Real-Time Networks (RTN 2013). Further details will be posted on the publications page.

 

01st May 2013: A paper co-authored with Prof. Julian Proenza has been accepted for publication at the 2013 Euromicro Conference on Real-Time Systems (ECRTS 13). Further details will be posted shortly on the publications page.

 

27th September 2012: A 3-year Research Associate position in real-time networks and control is now available and is advertised here.

 

24th September 2012: The paper on “A first qualitative evaluation of star replication schemes for FTT-CAN” wins a best WiP paper award at the ETFA conference: many congratulations to the lead author David Gessner!

 

11th July 2012: Three papers are accepted for presentation in the Work-in-Progress (WiP) sessions at the upcoming EFTA 2012 Conference in Krakow, Poland. Further details will be posted shortly on the publications page.

 

04th July 2012: Prof. Julian Proenza bids farewell to the Electronics & Control group after a productive four week sabbatical visit!

 

14th June 2012: Fathi Abugchem (PhD Research Student) has a paper accepted at the 2012 UK Electronics Forum to be held in Newcastle in August. Well done Fathi!

 

03rd June 2012: Two full papers are accepted for presentation at the upcoming EFTA 2012 Conference in Krakow, Poland. Further details will be posted shortly on the publications page.

 

30th March 2012: A paper related to optimization of non-preemptive real-time software tasks is accepted for presentation in a special session on ‘Software and Safety Architectures for Real-Time Applications’ at the PSAM/ESREL Conference 2012.

 

26th March 2012: A paper related to real-time implementation of adaptive GPC for industrial processes is accepted for publication in Electronics Letters. Further details will follow on the publications page.

 

25th March 2012: The deadline for the ETFA 2012 conference (and also the special session we have organized on fault tolerance in distributed embedded and automation systems) is extended until April 22nd.

 

15th March 2012: The UKEF 2012 call for papers is released. The event takes place at the University of Newcastle this year.

 

6th Jan 2012: A paper on real-time identification of industrial processes is accepted for publication in Electronics Letters. Further details will follow on the publications page.

 

21st December 2011: The proceedings of RTN 2011 are now available online here or here.

 

19th September: The paper on “Bandwidth-Efficient Burst Error Tolerance in TDMA-based CAN Networks” wins a best-paper award at the ETFA conference!

 

08th August: A paper is accepted for publication in the Journal of Systems Architecture – further details on the publications page.

 

01st August: The call for papers for the Work-in-Progress (WiP) session of RTSS 2011 has been released. Further details are available on the WiP session webpage.

 

15th July 2011: A paper on burst error compensation for wireless control systems has been accepted for presentation at the ICAC 2011 Conference in Huddersfield, UK.

 

01st June 2011: Two papers are accepted for presentation at the upcoming EFTA 2011 Conference in Toulouse, France. Further details will be posted shortly on the publications page.

 

11th May 2011: Usama Abrar (Postgraduate Student) has a paper accepted at the 2011 UK Electronics Forum in Manchester. Well done!

 

06th April 2011: Revised versions of papers presented in the RTN 2011 workshop will be published in the December issue of ACM SIGBED Review. The deadline for submission is the 24th April and is fast approaching…

 

16th February 2011: A paper for the special session on Safety Integrated Systems at COMADEM 2011 has been accepted.

 

7th February 2011: Work will begin shortly on the development of a FlexRay test facility, supported by the University Research Fund (URF). Further details will be posted here.

 

5th November 2010: A special session on Safety Integrated Systems at COMADEM 2011 has been organised.

 

9th September 2010: I will be presenting a paper at the UKACC 2010 conference on control in Coventry.

 

25th August 2010: The paper presented at ICIE 2010 was voted the best paper in the session. A revised version of this paper will shortly be appearing in an edited book, published by Springer Verlag.

 

6th July 2010: I will be presenting a paper and acting as session chair at the RTN 2010 Workshop in Brussels, Belgium. Hopefully I will also have time to sample the local selection of beers, mussels and chips...

 

2nd July 2010: I will be presenting a paper and acting as session chair at the ICIE 2010 conference in London, UK.
